Cable carriers are pushed to the limit and so are able to prove their technical and economic strengths when it comes to crane applications. In long travel applications, aluminum guide troughs are used to guide the cable carrier.
In an existing project, a crane facility in a cement factory was equipped with made-to-measure cable carrier systems for a fully automated storage and removal system used for clearing sludge. Proven in long travel applications, Chainflex® continuous-flex cables and aluminum guide troughs are also used.
The following Chainflex® continuous-flex cables are used: motor cables, control cables, data cables, and bus cables.
Guide-trough system for long travels
The crane track has a length of 105 ft (32 m). The trolley speed is at 3.3 ft/s (1 m/s), the crane speed is at 4.4 ft/s (1.3 m/sec), and the lifting speed is 3.3 ft/s (1 m/s). The lift height is equal to just over 26 ft (8 m). The crane also uses aluminum trough which, together with the cable carrier, makes a compact and space-saving system.

The basic package of the guide trough consists of just four parts: trough wall, glide bar, clamping shoe and fastener. The trough wall is made of extruded aluminum and is light, stable, resistant to sea water and suitable for demanding environments.
The aluminum guide trough is stable against forces from all directions
