Interactive exhibits for a distillery visitor centre

A series of interactive exhibits were designed and developed for a distillery visitor centre in Scotland using igus®’ iglidur® slewing rings. The interactive exhibits consisted of a series of submarine style periscopes operated by the visitor to gain a 360 degree view of the exterior landscape. An additional periscope was designed and built for handicapped access. A way had to be found of making the periscopes sit on their respective poles and turn freely, which a normal bearing would allow, but also stop them from turning so freely as to allow the public to spin them. A solution was needed which didn't include a brake which would wear over time. This became achievable without introducing a separate braking component. The iglidur® polymer based PRT slewing rings allowed for low friction rotation and offered a degree of rotational resistance. Additionally, they offered lightweight and maintenance free properties.
