CC-Link cable for moving applications

Buy cables Why chainflex? Bus cable overview

Transport data reliably with CC-Link cables

CC-Link (Control and Communications Link) is a fieldbus system developed by Mitsubishi, which was designed in 1996 as a proprietary fieldbus network. Due to strong customer demand, CC-Link was launched in 1999 as an open network, so that the data transmission protocols are also made available to third parties in order to develop their own interfaces. The CC-Link Partner Association (CLPA) was founded to continuously develop the bus system.

There are four different basic versions of CC-Link networks:

  • Standard CC-Link, which has a data rate of 10Mbps and is based on RS-485. With it both control data and information can be transmitted.
  • CC-Link/LT has a transmission speed of 2.5Mbps and is a bit-oriented network for the implementation of actuators and sensors.
  • CC-Link Safety is based on the CC-Link standard, but has an additional layer with the security feature in the top layer of the CC-Link protocol. Both the standard CC-Link devices and the CC-Link safety devices can be connected here. However, a prerequisite is a CC-Link safety master module.
  • CC-Link IE is based on Industrial Ethernet and is designed for seamless data exchange at all levels of a production plant. The data transfer rate is 1Gbps.

Cables for CC-Link applications from igus

The chainflex cable range from igus offers CC-Link cables with different performance levels. The CFBUS.PVC.035 is a variant with PVC outer jacket. For applications where an oil-resistant outer jacket is required, igus offers the PUR jacket CFBUS.PUR.035. A CFBUS.035 with TPE outer jacket is available for high bend radius and long travel requirements, as well as for resistance to oil and organic oil. All three versions have UL/CSA, EAC and CTP approvals. For CC-Link IE, the CAT5e Ethernet cables from the chainflex product range can also be used.

All chainflex CC-Link cables are designed for permanent movement in the energy chain. Depending on your requirements, you can choose between different PVC, PUR and TPE outer jackets. The different bus cable series offer different performance levels, so that the right cable can be chosen for each application area to achieve the longest service life.
CC-Link is distributed mainly in Asia. But there are also applications in Europe to transfer automation tasks between the devices in various machines, even if mostly PROFINET is used here.

CC-Link cables are available for different applications. In general, CC-Link cables are often installed fixed in the machinery and equipment, so that cables with a solid conductor or a flexible conductor consisting of 7 strands can be selected.

For applications in the energy chain, it is absolutely necessary to use CC-Link cables with fine stranded wires. In addition, a cable structure tailored to the movement in the energy chain is necessary, so that secure data transmission is guaranteed over the years. This is why chainflex cables have become established especially in equipment and machines such as robots, packaging machines, production machines and machine tools.

Transmission lengths
The topic of the maximum transmission length of bus cables is often underestimated. In general, caution should be exercised, as the maximum cable length can vary greatly depending on the type of cable. A cable for fixed installation always has a lower dampening than flexible cables, which is designed for permanent movements. As a result, the transmission length is lower than with a cable for fixed installation.

Depending on the cable range, chainflex CC-Link bus cables are mechanically designed for travel distances of up to 400m or more, but the data rate of the bus system decreases with increasing cable lengths. For fixed installation, a total cable length of up to 1,200m can be achieved with copper cables without repeaters. But then the maximum transmission rate is still 156Kbps, while with a total cable length of 100m, a data transmission rate of 10Mbps is still possible. With highly flexible CC-Link cables for the energy chain, our experience shows that one cable length can be significantly shorter. However, this length may vary depending on the environmental conditions and application requirements.

Sold by the metre or harnessed,
chainflex bus cables can be ordered by the metre on a single drum as standard, or cable ring, from 1m with no cutting charge or minimum quantity surcharges. In addition, igus also offers these cables as ready harnessed readycable. Each chainflex CC-Link cable can be ordered in the desired length or as ready harnessed cables from a quantity of one. In the readycable online shop you can choose between different cables and connectors. A filter function helps to select the right type.
