Due to their technical specifications and their conformity with the relevant regulations, iglidur A181 plain bearings are predestined for applications in food technology. Compared to iglidur A180 with regard to the mechanical properties, temperature and media resistance, iglidur A181 is more suitable with respect to the wear resistance in most cases.

The upper long-term application temperature of +90°C enables a wide range of applications in the food sector. The compressive strength decreases with increasing temperatures. When considering temperatures, the additional frictional heat in the bearing system must be taken into account. An additional safety device is recommended for temperatures higher than +60°C.

iglidur A181 has been developed for low surface speeds. In dry operation, a maximum of 0.8m/s (rotating) or 3.5m/s (linear) is permitted for continuous use. The values given in the table indicate the limits at which frictional heat causes an increase up to the permanently permissible temperature. In practice, these limit values cannot always be achieved due to interactions.

The compressive strength of iglidur A181 plain bearings decreases with increasing temperatures. Diagram 02 illustrates this relationship. The maximum recommended surface pressure represents a mechanical material parameter. Conclusions about the tribology cannot be drawn from this. Diagram 03 shows the elastic deformation of iglidur A181 under radial loads.
Coefficient of friction and wear resistance change with the application parameters (diagrams 04 and 05). With iglidur A181 plain bearing, the change in the coefficient of friction μ as a function of surface speed and shaft roughness is only slightly pronounced.
Coefficient of friction against steel (Ra = 1μm, 50 HRC):
| iglidur A181 | dry | Greases | Oil | Water |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coefficient of friction μ | 0.10 - 0.21 | 0.08 | 0.03 | 0.04 |
Diagram 06 shows an extension of the results of tests with different shaft materials that were carried out with iglidur A181 plain bearing. Particular attention is paid here to the corrosion-free shaft types for the food sector. Diagram 06 shows that low wear rates are achieved especially in combination with these shafts. As with many iglidur materials, the wear rate increases in rotation with otherwise identical parameters (diagram 07).
iglidur A181 plain bearings can be used under a wide range of environmental conditions and in contact with numerous chemicals. The table provides an overview of the chemical resistance of iglidur A181 plain bearings at room temperature.

iglidur A181 plain bearings are standard bearings for shafts with h-tolerance (recommended at least h9). The bearings are designed for the press-fit in a housing with H7 tolerance. After installation in a housing with nominal dimensions, the inner diameter of the bearings with E10 tolerance is set independently.
Important tolerances according to ISO 3547-1 after the press-fit:
