It is characterised as a space-saving, low-profile housing industrial connector. Thanks to our igus® modular design, a fully-customised plug-in/disconnect point can be configured as a single module consisting of several different connector housings. In 2018, the Module Connect won the Red Dot Design Award.

One connector module instead of many individual connectors

Thanks to the simple modular design, a unique plug-in/disconnect point can be configured as a single module consisting of several different connector housings. Each housing can be fitted with up to four different connector inserts.

The housings can then be joined together, making an almost unlimited number of module variations possible in terms of individual widths and height. Due to the low-profile housing design, the Module Connect saves a lot of space and enables a high contact density for every application.

Module Connect in the packaging industry

Module Connect ensures fast maintenance in the packaging industry

In case of maintenance, igus has provided a plug-and-play system to enable quick maintenance. Previously, maintenance work took about four hours, which could often only be carried out by two employees. A replacement of the energy supply system now takes about 45 minutes with just one person using the new interface concept, the Module Connect from igus.

GHD Hartmann is one of the first customers to use the Module Connect connector. End customers of GHD Hartmann easily replace the energy supply with the plug-in connector from the modular system.

The challenge for our customer in this project in particular was that the path of the cables through the machine from the consumer unit to the switch cabinet amounts to 100 metres. This creates logistical challenges in the event of service, where there is planned or unplanned downtime.The readychain complete solution offers the customer the greatest advantages in this application. We have a fully harnessed energy chain, including the plug-and-play interface solution Module Connect for their machines.

Module Connect adapter avoids long downtimes in automatic parking systems

Wherever fast reaction times are required, e.g. in the event of a fault, the Module Connect adapter ensures fast connection of the energy supply system to the machine and avoids long downtimes.

An example is an automatic parking system that weighs and measures the car and then moves it to a suitable parking position.

Applications in energy supply systems

Where the automation of machines and industrial plant is concerned, there is a whole series of different reasons to decide in favour of pre-assembled energy supply systems.
Manufacturing costs decrease, sources of errors are practically excluded. Less project planning work is needed whereas reliability increases. Possible areas of use are in assembly/installation engineering and handling technology, in conveyor technology or in mechanical engineering.

What is a modular connector?

The Module Connect is igus’ way of consolidating multiple services into one place with the idea of saving time and space if you are either building machinery or maintaining.

How to wire a modular connector?

With the igus® modular connector, you will not need to wire the connector as this will be pre-terminated by igus® using production drawings which are approved beforehand by the customer.
