Gliding applications for long travels

What is meant by gliding applications?

With gliding applications, the upper run of the energy chain glides on the lower run or on a sliding surface of the corresponding guide trough. Gliding applications are used in applications with long travels - in other words, where the energy chain's unsupported length cannot be realised.
The diagram to the right shows a gliding application, where the energy chain glides on a glide bar of the corresponding guide trough.

Gliding applications

Types of the gliding arrangements

One-sided gliding application

One-sided gliding application Schematic showing the function of an energy chain system on a gliding application. The fixed end of this application is located in the centre of the travel. With the centre infeed, you can achieve the minimum length of energy chains and the maximum travel of cables.

ℹ In the energy chain configurator you can design centre or off-centre feed.
The chain length is calculated as follows:

Lk = S/2 + K

AbbreviationsMeaningUnit
LkEnergy chain length[mm]
S/2Half length of travel[mm]
KAdd-on for bend radius for calculating the e-chain length[mm]
AGuide trough with glide bar
BGuide trough without glide bar
CTotal length of guide trough

Two reverse gliding applications

Two reverse gliding applications Configuration involving two reverse energy chains. The entire travel is measured as shown. For use when there are restricted spaces or high loads.
AbbreviationsMeaningUnit
S/2Half length of travel[mm]
STravel[mm]
RBend radius[mm]
H2Clearance height with lowered moving end[mm]
K2Add-on with lowered moving end[mm]
HRITrough inner height[mm]
ATotal length of guide trough
