Packoped relies on innovative igus components in the e-cargo bike

What was needed: Bicycle handlebars, steering rods and rod ends for the e-cargo bike

Success for the customer: The used steering rods or coupling joints and igubal rod ends withstand the load in tough cargo bike use, impress with their long service life and are lubrication-free and corrosion-free. Just like the igus plastic handlebars, the heads and rods are also "Made in Germany"!

The Swedish cargo bike manufacturer Packoped is part of NCCR, founded by the German expatriate family Krüper, who fulfilled their dream of living in beautiful Sweden in 2006. NCCR is dedicated to tuning and customising high-quality motorbikes. With a great deal of expertise from the motorbike industry, a large dose of creativity and plenty of enthusiasm, Packoped took the direction of cargo bikes in 2025. Away from noisy combustion engines on two wheels - towards quiet electric motors on three wheels!

Julia, Birgit and Jens' goal was set high, or to be more precise, really high quality: the aim was to produce a truly durable cargo bike with first-class components that is as easy to repair as possible. And totally independent of Packoped. The steel frame can be easily welded, standard parts are easy to replace and all plastic coverings are freely accessible and can be reprinted on a 3D printer. In terms of sustainability, the components should also not have to travel long distances by ship, but should be produced in Europe. However, the quality also had to be convincing. The higher quality and more durable the product, the more sustainable it is!

Of course, this also applied to the safe and comfortable steering system. We were looking for a bicycle handlebar produced in Europe as well as steering rods and rod ends that can easily cope with dirt, dust and moisture and are corrosion-free and maintenance-free.

The Packoped focuses on environmentally friendly mobility and comes in various versions - including an animal transporter, a model that can transport Euro pallets and a Packoped with classic dimensions. The cargo bike is intended to replace the quads with combustion engines frequently used in Swedish production halls - and of course also the delivery vans and transporters on the last mile. The goal: cleaner cities with less noise pollution and less traffic.

As mentioned, the cargo bike components were put together with short delivery routes in mind. And when it came to the bike handlebars, the plastic model from igus completely won over the makers of Packoped. It is manufactured in Cologne in an innovative and energy-saving way using state-of-the-art injection moulding technology. The plastic can later be easily recycled and reprocessed 100%. Thanks to its slight flexibility, it absorbs unevenness and thus relieves the muscles and tendons in the hands and arms - perfect for long hours on the bike.

The company also relies on the expertise of igus for other steering components - after all, there has been a very good business relationship between the parent company NCCR and igus for over 20 years. For the most part, plain bearings are sourced for NCCR's motorbike finishing, with steering rods and rod ends now being added for the Packoped. After all, the steering should also function reliably and be resistant to daily dust, dirt, moisture, etc., and be maintenance-free - which the igus components made of stainless steel in conjunction with the bearing rings made of iglidur J naturally guarantee. The igubal rod ends are highly customisable and can therefore be used in a wide range of applications. Bicycle handlebars, steering rods and rod ends not only offer technical and weight advantages, but also make a decisive contribution to the durability and maintenance-free operation of the e-cargo bike.
