LNG HYBRID Barge

The world’s first LNG HYBRID barge for supplying cruise ships with power during their time in the harbour. The system can provide power to every cruise liner which has a land-bound power connection. For this purpose, five pure gas generators are operated, that generate an output of 7.5 MW in total. The LNG is stored in two containers and made available to the motors via a treatment plant. The use of Liquefied Natural Gas as a fuel reduces emissions: soot particles by 100%, CO2 by approx. 20%, sulphur oxides by 100% and nitrogen oxides by approx. 88%. The igus® Engineering Team developed the complete energy chain system including the entire metal structure at the mooring area in Magdeburger Harbour in Hamburg. Bearings are for low-maintenance operation fitted with additional igus® components.
