xiros® plastic ball bearings

xiros® plastic ball bearings require no lubrication, are corrosion resistant and operate quietly. These attributes makes them a cost-effective alternative to traditional metal ball bearings.

The key elements of the all-plastic components enable these products to be lightweight, chemical resistant and non-magnetic. This allows them to be used safely in the medical industry or food processing environments.

The xiros® plastic ball bearings material consists of a blend of base plastics, solid lubricants, fibers and filaments and these are complimented with glass, plastic or stainless steel balls.
Key benefits:
  • 100% self-lubricating and maintenance-free
  • Highly corrosion-resistant
  • Options for extreme temperatures
  • FDA-compliant
  • Lightweight – 60% lighter than metal
  • No minimum order quantity

What advantages do our plastic ball bearings offer?

Heat-resistant plastic ball bearings

Heat-resistant / temperature-resistant

Depending on the application, our ball bearings are suitable for ultra-low and high temperatures. These specifications make it possible to dispense with expensive special lubricants, which are essential for metal ball bearings. The performance of these ball bearings has been tested and confirmed in numerous tests in the xiros® test laboratory, even at extremely low temperatures down to -100°C.

For applications with high heat loads, we offer heat-resistant ball bearings up to +150°C for long-term use.
Chemical-resistant ball bearings

Chemical resistance

The plastics developed by igus® enable xiros® ball bearings to run perfectly even when in contact with aggressive chemicals. The specified resistance and calculated service life are based on data from our ball bearing test laboratory.

Our plastic ball bearings make it possible to dispense with costly special lubricants, which are required for applications exposed to aggressive chemicals. This offers considerable advantages over conventional metal ball bearings.
Rustproof ball bearings made of plastic

Virtually rustproof

Plastic ball bearings have a decisive advantage over those made of metal: They are extremely corrosion-free.
Even when used in corrosive environments, the xiros® ball bearings maintain their smooth running and long service life - with low maintenance requirements.

Metal ball bearings corrode more quickly, seize up and, in the worst case, cause the machine to fail, which can lead to high maintenance costs.
Lightweight ball bearings made of plastic

Particularly lightweight

Metal ball bearings are robust - and heavy. xiros ball bearings offer the perfect alternative for a wide range of applications, as plastic ball bearings are lightweight, reliable and durable.

Plastic ball bearings are often used in the automotive industry and aerospace engineering. Wherever lightweight is important, our light plastic ball bearings are ideal.
FDA-compliant plastic ball bearings

FDA-compliant

Ball bearings made of FDA-compliant plastics are used wherever components come into contact with food or are used in sterile areas.

Thanks to the FDA-approved plastics developed by igus, which also work completely without additional lubricants, xiros ball bearings are ideal for applications in food, beverage and medical devices.
Non-magnetic ball bearings

Non-magnetic

The non-magnetic plastic ball bearings are the first choice wherever freedom from metal is required. The xiros range includes both pure plastic ball bearings and variants with glass balls, which are ideal for applications where there must be no metal.

The rust-proof alternative to metal ball bearings

xiros® plastic ball bearings according to DIN 625 require no lubrication, are corrosion-free (when using glass or plastic balls) and operate extremely quietly. This makes them a cost-effective alternative to metallic ball bearings. Made from a mixture of tribopolymers, the iglidur® material plastic components are light, resistant to chemicals and non-magnetic. This ensures safe use in medicine, packaging, food processing, drive technology and many other industries. Whereas the plastic of our xiros® ball bearings consists of a mixture of basic plastics, solid lubricants, fibres and filaments, the balls are typically made of glass, plastic or stainless steel. The balls are housed in a cage, which can consist of our own xirodur B180 material, polyamide (PA), polypropylene (PP) or polyether ether ketone (PEEK).

Frequently asked questions about xiros® plastic ball bearings.

What are ball bearings?

Ball bearings belong to the family of rolling bearings. Moving between an inner ring and an outer ring, rolling bodies reduce rotational friction and absorb radial and axial loads. Because the balls roll, they have a much smaller coefficient of friction than two flat surfaces that slide against each other. Due to the smaller contact surface between balls and rings, the ball bearings tend to have a lower load capacity for their size than other kinds of rolling bearings.

What advantages do the xiros® plastic ball bearings have over other ball bearings?

Xiros® plastic ball bearings are lubrication and maintenance-free. They are lightweight, corrosion resistant and have a high media resistance.

Where are xiros® plastic ball bearings used?

There are lots of applications and industries that xiros® ball bearings are used, labelling machines, food and packaging and conveyors.
