Product overview triflex® R

The products in the triflex® R range are specially designed for demanding multi-axis robots. Due to their three-dimensional mobility, the product range is also often used as a problem solver outside of robotics. The five versions of the triflex® R energy chain (TRE, TRXE, TRC, TRCF, TRL and TRLF) offer high tensile force absorption and remarkable flexibility. A twist of around ± 10° per chain link in the longitudinal axis is possible. Compared to a cable protection conduit, the three-dimensional triflex® R chains offer a clearly defined bend radius, which significantly increases the service life of the guided cable and conduit.
triflex® R is derived from the triple, flexible energy chain (triflex®) and the R stands for the round shape of all 5 versions.

    TRE e-chain®

    TRE easy to fill

    This version is by far the most versatile and best-selling version of all six triflex® R energy chains. The "easy design" allows the cable and hose to be easily pushed into the e-chain® from the outside. This makes filling and replacing the filler super quick, easy and cost-effective.
    There are two versions of the TRE, whereby the B version (e.g. TRE.40.058.0.B) due to the 4-fold tensile strength compared to the standard version of the same size (e.g. TRE.40.058.0) clearly different.

    TRC e-chain®

    TRC closed with chip protection

    With this triflex® R version, protection against external influences is the top priority. Thanks to the round and completely closed type of e-chain®, dirt and chips have virtually no chance of getting inside and damaging the cable or hose. The TRC version is also available from stock as a conductive ESD version. Conductive 3D chains are particularly needed in semiconductor production.
    The dimensions and connecting pieces are identical to the TRE, which means that a TRE chain link can also be used as a quick replacement in an emergency.

    TRCF e-chain®

    TRCF closed with snap-lock mechanism

    This triflex® R version is completely closed, just like the TRC, but can be opened very easily from the outside in three ways via hinges. The round and closed type offers maximum protection against chips or other external influences. 
    However, the internal structure and the connecting pieces do not allow a connection between TRC and TRCF, as the TRC has two chambers and the TRCF has three chambers for cable and hose.

    TRL e-chain®

    TRL light and cost-effective

    If the application allows it due to low stress and costs and weight play a major role, then the TRL chain is usually used. The lightweight TRL chain is exactly the right product for optimum guidance of cables and hoses at the side of the robot as well as in situations where the triflex® R chain is not subject to high tensile forces.
    This light chain is not suitable for use in combination with retraction systems, but is a champion for simple cable routing, as the cable and hose are super easy to press into the chain from the outside.

    TRLF e-chain®

    TRLF lightweight and with snap-lock mechanism

    The TRLF behaves in a similar way to the TRCF in relation to the TRL. Both F versions, where F stands for wing, offer the option of opening the e-chain® from the outside to make it even easier to insert cables and hoses. The TRLF is the ideal solution for low tensile force requirements and the desire for flexibility to be able to change cables and hoses easily. For example, a cable and hose guide on the side of the robot is again a suitable option. This light chain is also not suitable for use in combination with retraction systems, but is a champion for quick cable and hose changes.

    TRXE e-chain®

    TRXE telescopic and twistable in an e-chain®

    When the 3-dimensional movement is extended by a further option, we have the revolutionary TRXE chain. This version combines the advantages of a TRE chain through the side openings and can even replace a complete retraction system under certain conditions (e.g. handling packages). This saves material, part number and, above all, weight, as the load capacity of robots is limited.  
    The elasticated band and the internal structure of the TRXE allow length compensation of up to 36 %, which can replace one or two retraction systems.

    Accessories for triflex® R e-chain®

    mounting bracket triflex® R

    Mounting bracket for fixing the triflex® R chains

    Fastening the round triflex® R chains is almost impossible without a mounting bracket. In addition to the simple fixing of the triflex® R chains, the mounting brackets also offer an option for strain relief of the cable and hose. The use of connecting elements with strain relief teeth greatly minimises the load on the cable and hose, as the tensile forces are absorbed by the e-chain® and not by the filling. mounting brackets can also be installed without strain relief to simply attach the e-chain®. A basic distinction is made between mounting brackets with standard, light and self-aligning bearings.

    Connections for the sixth robot axis

    In addition to the standard and light connection elements for the triflex® R e-chain®, there are other different connection options specifically for the sixth axis of an industrial robot.     Gliding feed-through

    A gliding feed-through is derived from a mounting bracket, whereby the mounting bracket fixes the e-chain® and the gliding feed-through, especially in conjunction with a retraction system, guides the triflex® R chains evenly on and around the robot. This product is available in two versions: locking or with pedal bearings for additional manoeuvrability.

    Protection for triflex® R

    Protection for triflex® R e-chain® - simply safe

    If special environmental conditions mean that not only the cable and hose but also the triflex® R chain require additional protection. The protectors give the triflex® R chain extra protection against abrasion and wear for particularly stressed points. The three protective hoses offer protection against soiling such as paint (white), hot chips (silver) or increased abrasion (artificial leather) due to friction.

    TRE Locks - small but indispensable

    A major advantage of the TRE e-chain® is its easy design, which allows you to simply push the cable and hose into the chain from the outside.     Retraction systems for triflex® R e-chain®

    RS Module - the all-rounder system

    This retraction system is the classic among the igus® dresspacks. Integrated spring rods generate a directional pretension to prevent the formation of unwanted loops in the working area of the robot hand. The cable and hose are routed space-saving above the robot.
    This system is particularly suitable if the robot is located in a harsh, dirty environment. The spring rod mechanism is extremely robust and low-maintenance.

    RSP module - the powerful system

    The infinitely adjustable retraction force is at the centre of this retraction system. The force with which the dress pack is pulled back into its original position is strongest here and is also infinitely adjustable thanks to the use of compressed air. If the filling changes frequently or is very heavy, this system is the best choice. 
    For particularly long robot arms, the RSP system offers sufficient power reserves to pull the dresspack back into the starting position again and again.

    RSE module - compact for small robots

    With the RSE module, weight and price are the main arguments for equipping your robot with this system. With a compact mix of RS and RSP modules but without spring rods or compressed air, an elastic band ensures a constant retraction force. Although the system is limited to chain sizes 40 and 50, its lightweight but solid design makes it popular with robots with light and medium payloads. Super quick installation and maximum variability in alignment ensure an optimum user experience.

    RSE module - linear and space-saving

    The linear RSE module is characterised in particular by its slim and therefore space-saving design. The biggest advantage of a linear system is the ability to optimally guide feed hoses for rivets or screws or to operate laser applications gently. To save additional space, a compact version of the RSE module is available for chain sizes 40 to 65. The compact versions are even lighter. For continuous linear use with medium and large filling, we recommend using the other linear retraction system.

    RSEL & RSSL module - linear, space- and cost-saving

    If the cost pressure increases but the required retraction length is limited to a maximum of 380 mm, then the linear RSEL and RSSL are the right choice. Both systems are identical in size, but the RSEL uses elastic straps to provide the retraction force and the RSSL uses coil springs. In oily environments, the RSSL should be favoured over the RSEL. The main area of application for these retraction systems is the automotive industry.

    Universal mounting kit - angle tube for fibre-rod

    The name universal mounting kit might suggest that anything can be attached here. However, the universal refers more to the attachment to the robot and not the attachment of the e-chain®. With the e-chain®, spring rods can be installed with the open TRE chain or the closed type as TRC fibre-rod. The e-chain® is guided forwards parallel to the robot arm, freely supported by the spring rod modules. This system is particularly useful for moderate robot movements such as Suitable for palletising. The module also ensures contact-free movement between the robot and e-chain®, resulting in less wear.

    fibre-rod module - the simple "fishing rod"

    Compared to the other igus® retraction systems, the fibre-rod uses a pretension that is parallel to the robot arm. The spring rods allow the TRE or TRC chain to float above the robot arm like a fishing rod, thus preventing the chain from forming loops or abrasion on contact with the robot. The main area of application for the spring rod is simple palletising work, where the movement radius of the robot is kept within manageable limits.

    The retraction systems are supplied as standard without the e-chain®, as it is possible to equip a system with a TRE, TRC or even with the TRCF in the case of the RSP. The second important point when choosing the right chain set is the additional chain length, which varies depending on the robot arm. The e-chain® sets are available for the RS module with additional lengths of 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 mm. The longer the robot arm, the longer the length of the e-chain® set should be. The additional length is always measured from the point at which the retraction system is exited.

    This e-chain® set for the RSP retraction system can be ordered in three different chain versions (TRE, TRC, TRCF), which is only possible with this retraction system. The additional chain length, which varies depending on the length of the robot arm, is also available in lengths of 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 mm. The longer the robot arm, the longer the length of the e-chain® set should be. The additional length is always measured from the moment the retraction system is left.

    This e-chain® set for the compact RSE retraction system can be ordered in two different chain versions (TRE, TRC). As RSE with deflection is a system for small robotics, the longest additional chain length here is slightly shorter at 1250 mm. As with the RS and RSP modules, the other lengths are 500, 1000 and 1500 mm. The longer the robot arm, the longer the length of the e-chain® set should be. The additional length is always measured from the point at which the retraction system is exited.

    Adapter brackets - suitable connection without drilling

    To attach a retraction system to the robot, you do not want to and must not simply drill holes to attach the system to the robot.
