About igus®

plastics for longer life®

Günter Blase began igus® back on 15th October 1964 in a double garage in Cologne. For the first 20 years, the company worked as a supplier of complex technical polymer components. However, in 1983 Frank Blase established reinforced plastic energy chain systems and injection moulded polymer bearings as two distinct product groups and set up a network of sales engineers. These seemingly unrelated products are linked together through the belief in making functionally advanced, yet affordable polymer components and assemblies.

Between 1985 and 2018, igus® has grown from 40 to more than 3,800 employees distributed between the head office in Germany and 35 subsidiary companies around the world. igus® also has representative partners in more than 80 other countries. igus® will continue to invest in expansion in the coming years, thanks to the opportunities for growth provided by modern materials.

igus® UK factory

igus® UK Limited was founded in a small office 1991 in Daventry, Northamptonshire. Today igus® UK is based in a 28,000 square feet industrial unit just 10 minutes away from the M1, enabling even quicker collection and delivery times. The modern, spacious building also has ample car parking facilities and generous delivery vehicle access.

The ground floor sales office is enclosed in floor to ceiling glass panels to maximise light levels and add to an open working atmosphere.

All employees are equipped with the latest ergonomically designed work stations and have the same flat screen computer monitors and office chairs. The business is labour intensive by its bespoke nature. The shop floor area is divided by racks of components and each department can customise according to customer requirements. A special packing area is dedicated to bagging products up on a high volume basis with a customer’s own barcodes. There is also a 100 metre long preparation area for long travel energy chain and flexible cable configurations.

A whole aisle is dedicated to igus® chainflex® flexible cables, which are sold cost effectively by the metre in many varieties and combinations. All chainflex® cables are uniquely developed for their flexibility and durability and are the only flexible cables igus® will guarantee in its e-chains®.

The UK subsidiary has also analysed new methods of packaging and recycling materials, which have led to quicker dispatch times and increased environmental friendliness.

A dedicated readychain® assembly area, where energy chains are fully harnessed as complete systems for customers and configured with all requisite cables and connectors, means a system can be supplied; ready-made to customer specifications, fully tested and with an igus® guarantee. This initiative reduces cost and time for the customer and also reduces the number of suppliers the customer has to deal with. igus® employs a highly trained workforce of skilled electricians in this department to ensure the highest standards. A workshop area is also designated to the installation team, who are qualified to install these complete systems on site.
